KOTA KINABALU: An updated guideline for entry into Sabah for international travellers in line with the country’s border reopening effective April 1, has been released by the state government.

In the guidelines issued by the state disaster management committee (Covid-19), the pre-entry requirements are aligned with the national level, but some measures are specifically upon arrival into Sabah via air, land or sea.

Upon arrival into Sabah, international travellers are required to undergo RTK-Antigen tests done by trained healthcare personnel prior to immigration clearance at all the state’s point of entry (PoE).

“Personal/pre-purchased RTK saliva test is not allowed.

“For transit passengers via Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) 1 and 2 or other Malaysia’s PoE, they are allowed to proceed to enter Sabah if the RTK-Antigen tests done by trained healthcare personnel taken at the first PoE came back negative,” said state Covid-19 spokesperson Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun in a statement on Tuesday (March 29).

Those who are partially vaccinated or unvaccinated will still need to be quarantined for five days, even if they tested negative.

Travellers found positive for Covid-19 will have to be quarantined for seven days even though fully vaccinated, while those who are partially vaccinated/unvaccinated will be quarantined for 10 days.

Adolescents aged 17 years old and below are exempted from quarantine despite vaccination status, unless tested positive upon arrival in Sabah, whereas children six years old and below are exempted from Covid-19 tests, he added.
