Back in February, rumours that NVIDIA’s fourth Ada Lovelace graphics card, the GeForce RTX 4070, would be launching in April began cropping up. Now the latest rumours seemed to have narrowed down that launch window to a specific date: 13 April.

The alleged launch date of the non-Ti RTX 4070 was revealed by hardware leakster hongxing2020 (@hongxing2020), who had correctly revealed the launch dates of RTX 30 and 40 Series SKUs before. Sadly, their tweet only contained the date as the brief update, with no additional details, such as the expected pricing of said card.

As for what we can expect in terms of specification and performance, the RTX 4070 is expected to more or less be similar to the beefier Ti version, but with the obvious reduction in power, obviously. To that end, the GPU is expected to run on the same AD104 GPU as the Ti version, and might ship out with 5888 CUDA cores, down from 7680 of its more powerful sibling.

That being said, the RTX 4070 is also expected to run with the same 12GB memory capacity and clockspeeds as the Ti version, but with GDDR6 memory instead of the GDDR6X modules that are currently used by the earlier RTX 40 series cards. Additionally, the card should have a 192-bit memory bus and a TDP of 200W, down from the 285W TDP of the Ti version.

Another factor of the RTX 4070 that isn’t clear right now is whether or not there’s going to be a Founders Edition (FE) of the card: when NVIDIA launched the RTX 4070 Ti, the brand chose not to launch an FE SKU, effectively leaving the cooling solutions and cooler shroud designs in the hands of its brand partners. While the decision wasn’t unexpected, it was a bit surprising, given that the GPU brand typically starts this behaviour with its lower-tier cards. Case in point, the RTX 3060 that we reviewed back in 2021.

Whatever the case, it is likely that we’ll be hearing from Jen-Hsun Huang, CEO of NVIDIA, on the card when he takes to the stage for GTC 2023 later this month, so stay tuned.
